More than “Johnny’s Mom”

IMG_0827

Once you’re a mom you have many a moment when you feel as if you’re losing your identity.  Where you used to be your own person with your own name, suddenly you find yourself being called “Johnny’s Mom,” especially once your kids start going to classes and school.  You used to have your own interests and now you spend your free time learning about the latest American Girl Doll, reading a Lego manual or re-learning those algebra functions you thought you’d said goodbye to long ago. You used to go on a date and have witty and hilarious things to say to your spouse, whereas you now sometimes feel that your children and their needs and schedules are all there is room for in your {still witty and hilarious} brain.  There was a time when you could spend hours on the phone each week with girlfriends and now you spend hours shuttling your {amazingly talented} children from one activity to the next.

Now, I don’t know if your child’s name is Johnny, but I DO know that you are much more than just “Johnny’s Mom” or “Emma’s Mom.”  I know that your interests go far beyond American Girls and that you wish you could have more date nights or spend more time with your friends.

You were someone before you became a mom, you’ll be your very own person when they launch someday and that amazing woman that you’ve always been doesn’t just sit idly in those in-between years waiting to come back out.  You’re still in there!

Moms put a LOT aside for their children, and any good mom will tell you that it’s 100% worth it.  Because it absolutely is.  Deciding to become a parent is no small commitment and it shouldn’t be taken lightly.  BUT, you don’t have to give up your entire soul and being when you gain that title you are so proud to hold.

Just you, and encourage you to grow as a woman, a wife, a friend, a daughter.

We’ve so enjoyed getting Twin Cities Moms Blog off the ground and putting our own touches on it, but this blog is for you and we’d love to know what you want to hear about, what resources are helpful to you and how we can best support YOU.  We’d love to hear from you anytime, so feel free to send us a note.  We’ll keep you up to date with our happenings on Facebook and you can subscribe to get our news each weekday morning in your inbox.  Grab a cup of coffee, take a peek around and be encouraged by the amazing team of women who have joined us on this journey.
