Our team of writers met up for a meal last month at a favorite local restaurant, The Blue Onion. It was a great opportunity for this group of moms to get out, grab some girl time, all while enjoying some delicious food at The Blue Onion.

This third location follows one in North McAllen at 10th and Dove as well as a second location in Weslaco.

It is screened from the rest of the restaurant by creative architecture and was very comfortable for our group of moms. We could have certainly fit at least twice as many people (or maybe more) into the space for something like a Moms Night Out, a bridal shower, baby shower, birthday party, company party, the list goes on.

Blue Onion served up a family style meal that included a continuous spread of salads to start with any of their homemade dressings, all delicious, then platters of their signature dips – hummus, artichoke heart, and roasted red pepper. The main course was an assortment of wraps and po’ boys cut into smaller servings so we could try a little of everything, from Colorado chicken or shrimp, pesto chicken or shrimp, and al pastor, too. My favorite new find was the Colorado shrimp wrap. Yum!

bo saladAs a mom and small business owner, I get very excited when I see a local business such as Blue Onion growing and expanding within the community. The food is always stellar. My favorite order is tomato basil soup or the house salad with a gyro plate. I love to dine in or order for pick up since the food also packages well and travels to my house easily while keeping fresh.

Before the end of this little mommy mealtime meeting/night out, we also shared some more fun with items from our quarterly meeting sponsors – Sweet Somethin’s, Maripoza Boutique, and Hobbies and Heroes. Each had some great gift items for a few lucky readers and Facebook followers.
