Even though my daughter is now 6 1/2, we still have some of her most beloved toddler books on her bookshelf and now she is able to read some of them on her own! We are excited to share a few of our faves for your Friday:
Some of our favorite toddler books that have spanned generations are simply the classics. Dr. Seuss, Golden Books, and a lovely nursery rhyme book will be a gift for years to come. Many of the ones we have in our home belonged to myself or my husband when we were little! We love the Mary Engelbreit’s Mother Goose nursery rhyme collection, with large pages and lovely artwork on every page. Goldilocks and the Three Bears and The Gingerbread Man are two that the kids beg to hear over and over again!
Little girls love to hear stories about other littles and their mamas. Around here we love Momma, Will You? by Dori Chaconas, Your Kind of Mommy by Marjorie Blain Parker, and I Wear My Tutu Everywhere! by Wendy Cheyette Lewison. Pretty sure I have read the tutu book more times than I can count. And my daughter definitely went through a period of time where she begged to wear tutus everywhere. We’ve pared it down to Thursday night dance class, but the book is still a fave.
My daughter and I LOVE to bake together, and that began in the early toddler years with simple peanut butter cookies and rice krispie treats. A really sweet cookbook for little girls is the Girl’s Guide to Cooking which provides recipes for little desserts and snacks that are easy, tasty and adorable. For a “Where’s Waldo?” feel for today’s toddler girl, Treasure Hunt for Girls is an awesome seek and find book that gives your little one a fairy scene, a day at the beach, a princess tale and many others for them to find various objects hidden within. (It is great for long car rides!) Finally, two of the best faith-based books we love for girls are the “first virtues” series written by Dr. Mary Manz Simon (we especially adore Squirrel Says Thank You) and my all time favorite for a short nighttime girl devotional is Princess Stories: Real Bible Stories of God’s Princesses. It takes 29 Bible “princesses” (number 30 is your little girl!) and shares the Biblical account in the princess’s own words. Learning about Esther, Deborah, Mary, and Martha has been super fun and rewarding right before bed.
