Have you heard? Herky is on Parade! That’s right, 83 Herkys have taken over Iowa City, Coralville, and North Liberty to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the original Herky on Parade and the area’s largest public art project. Each Herky features the same pose, with a distinctly different look. Ranging from Bachelor Herky and Basketball Herky to Uncle Herky and William Sherkspeare, each Herky has a unique local and regional artist, including local junior high and high school students! The statues will be on display through Fry Fest in late August, and will then be auctioned off to support the United Way of Johnson and Washington counties.
If you’re looking for a fun family activity I suggest taking the Herky on Parade challenge…aka taking a picture with each of the 83 Herkys! Our Iowa City Moms Blog team is getting in on the fun…we’re already working on snapping pictures of us and our families with our favorite mascot!
