Introducing a New Series :: “SOS Becky”

We are super excited to announce our very own advice column…SOS Becky!

HMBSOSBecky.jpg

Think Dear Abby, but specifically geared for you lovely readers of Houston Moms Blog!

We all need help. This is why so many of us love the write in section of magazines. We were glued to them in Seventeen long before we even had a teen on the end of our age. And still today when we ask for people’s insights on Facebook, you are guaranteed about 2,339 comments. We love {and need} insight. And sometimes calling a friend or a mom or a mentor isn’t enough. We need a fresh perspective. Or maybe just someone who isn’t afraid to hurt your feelings {in a loving girl friend kind of a way, of course} or shoot it to you straight. Someone who gets your situation, but also sees your potential.

What kinds of questions?

ANYTHING goes here. Fears. Insecurity. Cluelessness. Hard, real life problems. Sex drive issues. Friendship drama. Toddler woes. Teenager tiffs. Hopelessness. Frustrations. Anger. Embarrassment. Lack of motivation. Unfulfilled dreams. Anything. And yes, your post is anonymous. You sign your letter however you’d like.

And we are committed to answering any question that comes through. Even if your question isn’t posted, it will be responded to.

How to submit a question?

Send questions to [email protected] or simply use the Contact Us form and include “SOS Becky” in the subject line to make it super easy.

Why SOS?

As a well known sage, Rihanna, said, “S.O.S. please someone help me. It’s not healthy…for me to feel this way. … I can’t take it, see it don’t feel right.” Or as a more common resource, Webster’s Dictionary defines SOS, “An internationally recognized signal of distress. A call or request for help or rescue.”

Clear enough. Us moms get it. We want so badly to be super mom and struggle to make it all happen. But a little struggle can’t stop us. We just need a little more insight.

And this goes right along with our Mommy SOS updates we do on Facebook too {we LOVE your input on these!}.

Why Becky?

Well, hello, that’s me. I am a Consultant with orbitingnormal. I have spent the past ten years helping women unearth their unique purpose, dream about what is possible, and come up with a realistic plan to make it happen. I am a writer and speak frequently at women’s events and prisons.  I have a degree in Communications, and I am a certified MBTI consultant.  OrbitingNormal exists to help you understand why YOU exist – because we believe you have a unique impact to make on the world.

And I also happen to be one of HMB’s very own contributors {see all my posts here}. My favorite post I’ve written with HMB, and the initial inspiration for SOS Becky, is – Dear Mom, you got this!

I promise to shoot it to you straight because I get that none of us have the time to fluff things up with “it’s not you, it’s them.” But I will always do it with the warmth that I’d give as if we were sitting across from one other sipping iced lattes or a glorious glass of Malbec. And when I don’t know how to give you the best answer to your question, know I’m committed to finding someone that can best reply to you and your situation. I have a wealth of experts {both professional and life experience experts} that I can’t wait to introduce you to along the way.

Who should write in?

You, your friends, your husband {yes, men, you are officially invited to HMB} …anyone!  You do not have to be a mom to write in to SOS Becky, and you certainly don’t have to live in Houston either. We welcome anyone and everyone, and to ensure everyone knows about this brand new resource – we encourage you to share it too! Here’s how…

  • help us spread the word by clicking all the lovely social media links at the very bottom of the post
  • use the hashtag #hmbsosbecky {Houston Moms Blog SOS Becky} when applicable
  • share today, tomorrow, and often

…because you never know when a friend might REALLY need something just. like. this.

What do I get for asking, reading, and sharing?

Becky K
Becky grew up in Houston, leaving only for college and an internship, but the humidity called her back! And it's a good thing - because shortly after moving home, she met her husband Chris, St. Louis Cardinals fanatic and {wife proclaimed} genius. She stays home with their two (soon-to-be three) girls: Karis, a girly girl and tenacious toddler, and Moriah, smiliest baby alive & Texas Women’s Hospital 10,000th baby in 2012. When she's not in the middle of a tea party, play dates, or potty training, she writes devotions with Sacred Holidays, teaches at prisons and women's ministry events and is a certified MBTI Life Coach {with Orbiting Normal}. She loves hot Houston summers, coffee creamer, dance parties with her family, nail polish, iced tea, reading {although it’s a lot of picture books these days}, and their church family {Bayou City Fellowship}! She would love to connect with you on her personal blog {www.beckykiser.com} or through Twitter {@beckykiser}, Pinterest {@beckyjkiser}, and Facebook.
