Best Toys for Babies {0 – 12 Months}

Please Note :: We are so excited to be partnering together with our sponsor Kid to Kid – Houston Galleria for a fun series of posts dedicated to OUR favorite toys for the littlest of babies to the biggest of boys and girls.  At Kid to Kid, you can buy gently used toys for a fraction of the price as well as a few select new toys at an absolute bargain too!  So start making those lists and checking them twice because your holiday shopping helpers are finally here, and up first – those precious infants…

After going through the baby stage twice so far {and hoping to go through it again someday!}, it has been so fun to see which toys have really gotten good use by both of my girls.  All babies are different, so everyone’s list of favorite toys might look different than mine. But based on my experience so far and asking around to friends, here is a list of some favorite toys for babies in their oh-so-important first year of life.  {Although the funny thing is – babies are always just as happy with a cardboard box and the wrapping paper the toys come in!}

Best Toys for Babies

1. The Indestructible Book

This toy is new to us, and it is pure genius. I bought it at the Motherhood Center at our recent Bump, Baby, & Beyond event. This book is rip proof, chew proof, and 100% washable. Enough said.

2. Activity Cube

This interactive toy helps with learning letters, colors, numbers, and more. The lights and sounds keep the baby’s attention. It comes with 13 blocks that can be stacked on top or put through openings on the sides to help develop fine motor skills. This has been a great toy for us since it is one that can grow with your baby.

3. My Pal Scout

This cuddly puppy can sing tons of different songs, and teaches first words, feelings, colors, and counting. You can also program it to learn your child’s name and some of his or her favorite things.

4. Soft Blocks

Blocks are a great way to build motor skills and babies always have so much fun trying to build them up tall and then knock them all down.  These blocks even having matching pictures on them, so they can grow with your little one too.  {Kid to Kid sells a wide variety of new Melissa & Doug items at really good prices, so be sure to keep that in mind too.}

5. Sophie the Giraffe

You know Sophie had to be on this list. This giraffe shows up at every baby shower I have been to, including my own. I really don’t know how this toy became so popular, but something about this eco-friendly toy really does make it the perfect teether.

6. Sit to Stand Walker

I love that the front of this can be taken off and baby can play with it on the floor. There are all kinds of things to push and turn and spin with lights and sounds. When the baby gets a little older you can attach the activity panel to the walker and it is great for learning how to take those first steps. There are lots of options for these out on the market, so just look for one that is a good fit for your little one.

7. Munchkin Traveling Flash Cards

This is another great toy to take with you in the car or to throw in your diaper bag. There are 40 cards with images on both sides. This is a fun way to help babies recognize animals, colors, shapes, and numbers.

8. Links

The best thing about links is their versatility. They are the perfect size for baby to hold and chew on. Throw a short chain of them in your diaper bag and they hardly take up any space. Hang them from the ceiling handle bars in the car above baby’s car seat for entertainment. Attach them to the stroller, car seat handle, jumperoo, or high chair strap, and attach other toys to them as well. Grab an empty wipes box and have your baby practice putting them in one at a time through the small opening. There are so many uses!

  1. Kids love toys and the best toys engage a child’s senses, spark their imaginations and encourage them to interact with others. Thanks for sharing this amazing list.
