Before 8am {Tiffanie’s Sacred Saturdays}

 “Life is an adventure, and there is no script. I see something in ordinary moments. I believe that perfection comes not when you are dressed perfectly and wearing lipstick – but in little moments and interactions that make up our days and build and sustain our relationships. Let me show you the beauty in your unscripted moments…” – Karen Jacot, photographer

Saturday mornings are sacred around our house so when Karen offered to graciously come into our homes to capture our early, before make-up, still-in-pjs mornings, I knew I wanted our Saturday morning to be documented. The hubby doesn’t leave by the crack of dawn on Saturday mornings {see also :: the kids actually get to see him in the morning}, and we are always very intentional to avoid planning things in the early AM on Saturdays. We cherish this sweet little family time, and I knew I wanted to capture it.

With no alarms set on Saturday, we let the kiddos wake us up when they’re ready. And they’re always ready before us. Most every morning starts with the pitter patter of little feet through our bedroom door with our son sneaking in bed with us. This particular morning, though, turns out that our daughter had been in our bed all night. She spiked a temp before bedtime, and I’m one of those mommas who needs to be able to just reach out and feel my kiddos when they’re sick. We spent most of our fall passing viruses back and forth in this house {oh, the joys of this being their first year in preschool/daycare full time}, so this has been an all too familiar scene as of late.

We usually snuggle in bed for a while, but in hoping that sleeping beauty would get her be-well sleep, we skipped snuggles in bed this particular morning, and instead, headed straight for the kitchen and opted for morning snuggles on the couch.

After a night full of constant waking and fever, coffee was definitely a priority. So were cinnamon rolls! And bacon {because my son barely goes a day without his morning bacon}! And did I mention coffee?!

Our son usually opts for watching train videos on the iPad over Saturday morning cartoons. We started the whole iPad-watching thing about two years ago during his second year of life — also known as the year he ate nothing besides chips, waffles, and popcorn. I still don’t know how he survived. So in an attempt to get him to sit still long enough to get some food, albeit straight carbs, in his system, we bribed him with train videos on YouTube. Worked like a charm then. Works like a charm now.

The hubs and I always take a few moments on Saturday morning to plan the menu for the week. It’s a chore for certain. Above is usually how that looks — he strongly dislikes menu planning. I strongly dislike grocery shopping — especially on the weekends.

My daughter is a huge snuggler, especially just right after she wakes up.

Can not even put into words how much I love this — nothing can soothe me like her snuggles can. Not even wine. {wink.}

 We eat a non-rushed breakfast together on Saturday mornings. It’s the bomb. I love it. There’s something about finishing your cup of coffee at the breakfast table instead of in the bathroom while putting on make-up that is just downright divine. Add some cinnamon rolls with that, and you’ve got the real deal, Lucille.

Watching them learn to interact with each other now that my daughter is learning to communicate is the most fun. I love how they are embracing their roles as big brother and little sister.

My son’s room is unanimously our favorite room in the house. The hubs and I always find ourselves just hanging out in there, though, we can’t quite put our finger on exactly what it is.

The kiddos are usually itching to get out of the house after breakfast, so we usually, weather-permitting, enjoy our #dailyturtlewatching at the creek behind our house. {Yes, turtle watching is a tradition in this house, and yes, we totally have a hashtag for it on my Instagram account.}

Not sure if he couldn’t see where he was going due to his cowboy hat or if he tripped over his cowboy boots, but my son scraped his knee on our way to our #dailyturtlewatching. He may be four already, but I’m going to give what we refer to as “magic kisses” for as long as he’ll let me.

Lastly, I love these sweet little moments Karen captured of our pups. Poor pups don’t get a lot of camera attention these days.

I’m completely and utterly in love with this special gift from Karen.  I will treasure these pictures forever and ever.
