Before 8am {Heather}

“Life is an adventure, and there is no script. I see something in ordinary moments. I believe that perfection comes not when you are dressed perfectly and wearing lipstick – but in little moments and interactions that make up our days and build and sustain our relationships. Let me show you the beauty in your unscripted moments…” – Karen Jacot, photographer

Confession ::  I was the hold out on this whole project.  I just wasn’t sure about letting someone in my home first thing in the morning.  For starters, we’re in such a rush on the weekdays.  I’m a working mom and Skeeter {2 1/2 years old} goes to daycare.  She doesn’t even eat breakfast at home those days.  She gets up, gets dressed, and is out the door in about fifteen minutes.  Plus, I’d have to clean my house.  And there is zero chance of me letting anyone take my picture right when I get out of bed.  Nope, not happening.

But then I saw Jana’s pictures, and I was sold.  …and I also did it a little on my terms.  I chose a weekend because we’d be home and a little more relaxed.  And I’d be lying if I told you my housekeeper hadn’t come the day before.

When Karen arrived, I was awake and writing a book review for my personal blog.  Of course, my little buddy Duke was right beside me.

Our house has no shortage of love…or fur.

Sleeping Beauty finally woke up!  Morning snuggles are my favorite.  One of my favorite memories of her took place at the pediatrician’s office.  A newborn was crying and Skeeter said “Oh no, he’s sad!  He needs to snuggle his mommy!”  Yes, honey, that’s always the answer.

On weekdays I lay out her clothes the night before to save time in the mornings.  But on weekends, she can take her time and choose her outfit.  It was no surprise that she chose a Frozen shirt.

This pretty much sums up her feelings on teeth brushing.  At least I didn’t have to fight her on it this morning!

We were doing a countdown until Christmas!  She had to move the snowflake every morning to the current day.  Then we counted the days until Santa comes!

We love to cook together on the weekends.  She’d requested “hot dogs” {aka pigs in a blanket} this weekend.

Breakfast is in the oven, so we went to her room where she could play while I folded clothes.  She was “scaring” me with the toaster that pops up the bread in this shot.

This child loves the furry creatures in our house, and this morning our cat Grayson was feisty.

We have these nutcracker ornaments that she insisted on hanging on the tree herself.  This means that they’re all clumped together in the same part of the tree – and facing into the tree, not outward – but she loves going to see them every morning, so I just couldn’t “fix” them.

Most weekends, we take a walk to the park to feed the ducks and play on the playground.  I handed her a bag of old tortillas, and we were ready to go!

She’s on her tricycle and ready to roll!

Even though I resisted at first – I couldn’t be happier with these photos, and I’m so glad Karen could capture these moments.  Some might consider them ordinary, but they’re the memories I’ll hang onto for all time.
