The Social Canvas – Review & Giveaway

The Social Canvas is Des Moines newest, trendiest night out in Iowa.  This classy paint & sip art studio provides the opportunity to relax, paint, and order a cocktail while enjoying a fun time out.

It’s the perfect place for a girls night out, date night with the hubby, private party, kids birthday celebration, and any other reason you need to have a good time.

About The Social Canvas

Owner Linda Laughery shares: “The Social Canvas came about after a fun filled birthday celebration, with my mom and sister, one winter day at Canvas & Cocktails in Denver. With a passion for anything creative and inspired by the whole experience I convinced my husband and children that I wanted to bring the concept to Iowa.”

Fun for Everyone

At The Social Canvas, we want to make the creation and enjoyment of art accessible to those who believe they have little or no artistic talent.

We want to replace the technical aspects of art instruction with a fun, relaxed and stress-free environment where your creative side can flourish and you might become aware of abilities you didn’t know you possessed.

In a world filled with everyday stresses, The Social Canvas provides an atmosphere where you can leave your worries at the door and just have a great time!

Paint & Sip

The Social Canvas has a bar stocked with a variety of quality beer and wine. Some Saturday mornings classes are titled ‘Mimosa Mornings’ and Sundays; ‘Sangria Sunday’. ‘Family Day’ features a family friendly painting for all ages.

Whether you’re looking for a fun night out, a relaxed morning with a friend, or something artsy to do with the family, The Social Canvas is THE place.

Our Experience

DMMB Contributor and working mom Tammy and I got the chance to experience The Social Canvas recently and we had a blast!  A much-needed break from our busy lives – we welcomed the opportunity to hang out together and get creative!

I will admit, I was a bit intimidated with all the amazing paintings showcased in the gallery as I walked in, but it didn’t take long for us to feel at ease. Linda & Terry welcomed us, gave us everything we needed for supplies, then Linda guided us through the day’s painting. Linda made it really easy to follow along and create something perfect.

Skeptical that even you can unleash your inner artist?  If I can do it, YOU can. Promise.

Upcoming Classes

Classes are offered several evenings each week and on weekends.  The Canvas calendar highlights all upcoming sessions.  Prices range from $25-40 depending upon the time of day and painting.  Classes fill up extremely quickly, so advance sign up is recommended.

Conveniently located on Alice’s Road between University and Hickman Road in Waukee, just south of the Coca-Cola building, its super easy for everyone in your group to meet up no matter where they are coming from in the Des Moines metro area.
