“It’s A…” Surprise Gender Reveal Ideas

1

Are you one of those crazy people? By “crazy” I mean EXTREMELY patient when it comes to finding out the gender of your baby. Judging by my tone, I’m sure you can assume that I am NOT one to wait nine months to know if my baby is a BOY or GIRL.

My husband and I are expecting our fourth baby this January. Yes, even the fourth time around, I HAVE to know. The first two babies we found out during the ultrasound. With our first, I knew it was a boy before the tech even said the words, “It’s a boy,” because I heard my husband gasp at the sight of the wee wee! By our third pregnancy, our boys were four and two and old enough to talk about mom having a baby. My husband and I thought it would be fun to find out the gender with our boys, so the third time around we had the gender sealed in an envelope and did this:

This time, our fourth time, we really wanted it to be a family reveal again. We chose to do a gender reveal cake. As I cut into the cake, our second born, now four, closed his eyes, clasped his hands, and whispered, “Please be a boy! Please be a boy!” His wish came true. We saw BLUE.

Gender reveals are becoming more popular and couples are getting more and more creative. When we did our gender reveals, it was important to me to find out at the same time as everyone else. A couple of my friends felt the same, but had other ideas for how to reveal the surprise.

Balloons in a Box:

Anna and Brett had balloons placed in a large box. Their kids opened the box to see PINK balloons floating to the sky. A SISTER for Sylvie and Major!

Confetti in a Balloon:

Niki and Nate had a gender reveal party to find out if their first child would be a boy or girl. Niki took the sealed envelope along with pink and blue confetti to the ballon store. The balloon store opened the envelope and then filled black matte ballons with the appropriate color confetti. Niki and Nate, along with their guests, popped the balloons with a bamboo skewer stick. Everyone saw PINK!

Piñata:

Chelsey and Brandon also had confetti placed in a balloon, but they taped theirs up on the ceiling and popped it piñata style. So neat to see the picture of BLUE confetti raining down on them. I’ve also seen photos on Pinterest of couples using a real piñata.

See, isn’t finding out SO much fun?! (That is a direct hint to all my family members and friends!)

Scrolling through Pinterest, I also saw other ideas such as using silly string or having a paint fight, and I even found a cool recipe for Gender Reveal Playdough!

How did you find out the gender of your baby? What other gender reveal ideas have you seen?

  1. Congrats!!! We had a gender reveal party two years ago and beforehand we went to Baby Gap and chose a boy and girl outfit and then asked the employees to gift-wrap the correct outfit after opening our envelope. We then opened the gift in front of our families and friends to find our girl outfit 🙂 I love that you have a video as well…I still love watching ours, which you can see here: http://www.snappycasualblog.com/blog/the-best-gender-reveal-party-ever

I’ve heard that you can even hire an ultrasound tech who will come to your house and put it on the TV for everyone to watch and find out at the same time during the gender reveal party! Eek!
