Though I am content as can be with where life and motherhood have me right now, I sometimes like to imagine what I would do if I had more time for individual pursuits.
If I had more free time, I would…
…develop my sewing skills (or lack thereof)!
I am not an artistic person by nature; but thinking that I should attempt to develop some sort of craftiness in myself, I decided a while back that the one “artsy-craftsy” endeavor my left-brained self could actually enjoy would be sewing. I would love to get really good at making (and maybe even designing) doll clothes; but considering that I’ve completed only four “simple” (and far-from-perfect) projects in the past 16 months, I know I’m a long way off from making that dream a reality. Maybe someday….
…write a book (just to see if I could)!
I don’t know if I am even capable of writing a book, but I think it would be fun to try. Blogging and journaling are very fulfilling to me, but I like to wonder if there is something more I could do with my passion for writing. This probably isn’t the season of my life that would allow me to challenge myself in such a way, but I think it’s a worthy dream to add to my “maybe someday” list. (It may be a big “maybe,” but it never hurts to dream, right?!)

My husband and I love books, and a walk through our house would tell you so. Our bookshelves are bursting with great literature, and our wish lists are almost always sure to include yet another book we’d like to add to our collection. As a homeschooling mom, I do lots of reading to my kids; but I don’t often make time for tackling my personal reading list. Some of the books I’m currently wanting to get to include:
- the Deer Run Saga by local author Elaine Marie Cooper;
- Leota’s Garden by Francine Rivers, the author of some of my favorite books; and
- The Outlier Chronicles by new author Megan Squires, a talented young mom from California whose dream of writing kept her awake at night until she followed it. Her “maybe someday” came. Maybe someday mine will, too….
I have felt prompted to dream a bit more too over the past year. I would love to write a Children’s book for my boys. I have always wanted to have my own little business and love having a way to do that with etsy and my lotion business. Can’t wait to read your book!
Yes, Jodi, it’s awesome that you’re making your dreams happen! I admire your courage in stepping out and giving it a try. That’s the part that scares me the most.
Writing a book has always been one of my dreams, from the first time I wrote a short story in elementary school writer’s workshop. My high school and college years were filled with so much writing that was assigned instead of writing I enjoyed and writing that flowed from hands that twitched to tell a story, but I’m rediscovering that with blogging. Motherhood definitely makes it challenging, but, then, motherhood was also a dream of mine from my elementary school days of playing “house” and dreaming up baby names. As for the reading, sewing, and scrapbooking dreams I still have, well, maybe someday I’ll have time for those again. One dream at a time. 🙂
The dream of writing a book must be a common dream among bloggers, huh? I guess it’s kind of the next step for those of us who dabble in writing! 🙂 I like your point that motherhood was a dream of yours, too, because it reminds me that in many ways I’m already living a dream.
