Yoga for Moms presented by Bikram Yoga and Columbia SC Moms Blog

What to Expect ::

Bikram’s Beginning Yoga Class is a 90-minute, 26 posture series designed to scientifically warm & stretch muscles, ligaments & tendons, in the order in which they should be stretched. The yoga gently guides the body into correct alignment, strengthens & tones the muscles, lubricates the joints, & promotes flexibility. It also provides tremendous benefits on the organs, glands, & fluids of the body by aiding in the release of toxins.

Bikram Yoga is practiced in a heated room at 105 degrees & 40% humidity for 90 minutes. Practitioners will SWEAT a LOT! Don’t let this scare you, Bikram Yoga is meant for everyone. The heat is your friend & will promote flexibility & aid in detoxification.

Why Hot Yoga ::

Yoga changes the construction of the body from the inside out, from bones to skin & from fingertips to toes. Before you change it, you have to heat it up to soften it, because a warm body is a flexible body. Then you can reshape the body any way you want.

Yoga flushes away the waste products, the toxins of all the glands & organs of your body. It provides a natural irrigation of the body through the circulatory system, with the help of the respiratory system. It brings nourishment to every cell of your body so that each one can perform its function & keep your body healthy. Bikram Yoga employs heat to further that cleaning process: When you sweat, impurities are flushed out of the body through the skin.

Tiffany Nettles
Tiffany traded in back-to-back business meetings and PowerPoint presentations, for sippy cups and play dates – leaving her corporate job behind to become a stay at home mom to her 16-month-old toddler. To say life is different is an understatement, and she now has a new found love and respect for the “hardest” (and best!) job she’s ever had. A native South Carolinian, Tiffany is best described as kind-hearted and friendly, with a quick sense of humor. When she’s not toting her little one around town to the latest kid friendly activity, you can find her enjoying a latte at Drip, catching up on the latest celebrity gossip magazines, or watching old reruns of Beverly Hills 90210 from the early 90′s. She received her Masters Degree in Integrated Communications from the University of South Carolina in 2007, and enjoys reading, writing and all things "mom."

  1. Also, I’ve never done yoga outside of my living room. Is there anything I need to bring? (i.e. a mat, towel, water bottle, etc.) Thanks!

    • So glad you asked! It’s recommended to wear workout clothing of wicking material and stay away from cotton. Bring a yoga mat, bath/beach towel to cover mat and water!
