“Crafty” is not a word I often use to describe myself. “Artsy”, maybe — if that means I enjoy parading through an art opening with wine and cheese in hand. If you look at my Pinterest boards you would be fooled into believing I regularly create DIY masterpieces that put Martha Stewary to shame, but alas, I am more of the buy it on Etsy and claim it as my own type. So, when I was presented with the opportunity to try my hand at an arts and crafts subscription box I was a tad apprehensive … that is until I checked out Twined’s website and saw that they send you everything you need to create the projects. Oh, Ok. I totally got this!

In every Twined parcel you will find the materials to complete two projects, one art and one craft. The October parcel was perfectly fall themed with a Thanksgiving inspired trivet art project and a Halloween sign craft. Inside the box I found two acrylic paints, a palette, paintbrush, Twined pencil, large piece of burlap, wooden letters spelling Boo, two cork trivets, and instructions for each craft, all tied up in twine — of course.

I decided to try the Boo sign first because honestly, it looked easier than the trivets. I read the instructions and figured I could knock out most of the painting and putting together during my 2.5 year old’s nap. Win-win! And I did! The instructions were super easy to follow and the even with dry time for the paint, the entire project took me about an hour tops.

When making the burlap Boo sign, I checked out the Twined website for some inspiration. On the website you find an entire gallery of completed projects.

The burlap bow proved to be too hard for me.
I absolutely love that they provide pictures of how people have taken what was in the box and tweaked it to make something uniquely personal. The burlap bow proved to be too hard for me, so I added my own touches.

I am the world’s worst bow maker, so after several attempts, I skipped this accent all together. This was no fault of Twined as they provided textual and visual instructions, I just can’t for the life of me tie a decent bow. So, I Krazy glued by Boo onto the burlap. Voila, something a little different and little more ME. When my daughter woke up from her nap she pointed to the sign and asked what it said, “BOO” I replied. “Witches say boo,” she smiled and ran to her playroom returning with half of a Dollar Tree witch that that had previously been hanging on our front door, until the broom broke off. Feeling that my burlap Boo needed a little OOMPH I glued the witch on top and TADA my Witchy Burlap Boo came together! I love it, yall! I am so impressed that I made something that I would want to hang on my front door. Twined rocked it!

My second project was the Thanksgiving themed cork trivets. I must admit, I had some trouble with these. My forte is not hand writing and these required me to write a quote and then paint over said quote. Nothing about that should be or was difficult, except that I hate my handwriting and found it especially hard to write with a pencil on cork. The small leaf stencil provided saved the day as I was able to surround my quote with cute little leafs to distract from my heinous writing. If I made the trivets again I would get some more stencils and go to town!

The thing I love most about the Twined parcel is that is a complete no brainer. Everything I need to make an adorable and functional craft or art project is provided for me. No hunting down supplies at Michael’s. No making multiple trips to Walmart because I bought the wrong size paint brush. I have everything I need at my disposal. Not only are the supplies provided, but thorough instructions complete with pictures! The instructions are extremely easy to follow, while allowing for some creative license. For a busy mom who thinks she is craftier than she truly is, Twined is fantastic. And at $24.95 a box, the subscription is very affordable. I am so excited to see what the December box has in store! Eat your heart out, Martha!
