6 Makeup Tips to Fake a Good Night’s Sleep

0

As a mom, I have found there are many mornings when I am functioning on far less than the desirable eight hours of uninterrupted beauty sleep. Whether I have been up all night with a sick toddler or a snoring husband, my appearance the next morning is less than perfect.

On mornings when I have to be seen by people outside of the pre-school pick-up line, I “fake it till I make it” with a few tricks I have picked up in my years as a professional make-up artist. Here are six tips I use to fake a good night’s sleep.

Conceal, Don’t Feel

The under-eye area is the first place to give you away after a long night of Frozen sing-alongs. Using a yellow-based concealer in a shade lighter than your skin tone will camouflage the dark circles making you look less tired instantly.

Make sure to apply the concealer over the entire under-eye area paying close attention to the inner eye area as that is where many women have the most natural darkness.

Pop of Color

Your face may look a little pale after a long evening spent with a colicky baby; a soft pink tone on your cheeks and lips will do wonders to freshen your appearance.

Curl Your Lashes

When your lashes are upturned, your eyes instantly look more alert. To get the greatest effect squeeze a lash curler once at your lash line, once in the middle of your lashes, and then once at the ends. Follow with a couple of coats of black mascara and you won’t look like you battled a toddler for bed space.

When applying mascara, wiggle the wand back and forth at the base of the lashes. It’s the mascara near the roots―not the tips―that gives the illusion of length.

Line Your Lids

Give yourself a shot of espresso liner. Make the line bold and close to your lash line being sure not to extend too far out from the corner of your eye and dropping. Application should be an upward motion, think of a checkmark.

Fill In Your Brows

The brows are an area many women forget about in a rush. By giving your brows a nice defined arch your under eyes will look less puffy and dark circles will be less prominent. Opt for a dark eye shadow applied by brush versus a waxy pencil for a more natural look.

Whiten Your Eyes

One of the best ways to pop open those peepers is to apply a dab of white shadow or eyeliner in the inner corner of the eye. If you are feeling extra adventurous or exhausted, sweep a soft shimmery shadow over your entire lower lids. The light-reflecting pigments will make you appear bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.

Ashleigh
Ashleigh always knew she wanted to be a mom, but a stay at home mom, not so much. At 26 she found herself trading in her lipstick and high heels for Burt’s Bee’s and nursing bras. The first of their core group of friends to have kids, Ashleigh and her husband Eric strive to maintain their fun loving lifestyle while simultaneously raising their toddler daughter. Luckily, Tiny Girl is an adorable extrovert who loves getting out and about as much as her parents. On weekends you can find the threesome strolling the aisles of Target, road tripping it to Charleston, or hosting friends in Irmo for epic board game battles.
