Writing about myself always makes me feel silly, like I’m trying to sell something or worse introducing myself in a meeting. Hi, my name is Malu and I have been a mom for 4 years. Here it goes…

I was born in Mexico City but moved to Texas when I was 8. The town we lived in was pretty small, so I was ready for a big city when I graduated high school. I picked Austin because I loved everything it had to offer; the diversity, the love for life, the music, the festivals, the nightlife and, of course, UT. I graduated with a BS and a BA both focused on my love for research.

I met my fabulous husband 12 years ago and we have been married for 8 years now. He is my love, my best friend and the best papa ever. I know everyone says that, but I really mean it. Even though it took us a bit to have our babies, I can’t imagine life any other way. We had our first beautiful boy four years ago and our second beautiful boy two years ago. I am now the proud mama of two wonderful boys, Mario and Travis, who fill my world with so much happiness. All three of them have changed my view on life dramatically. There is so much more to life than I thought and I am living it for them. If only I could show them how much I love them every second.

Because I was born in Mexico City and raised in Texas, I am a proud bilingual mama. I consider myself bicultural, but I am an admirer of all cultural traditions.  That is why I started my own blog about being a bilingual family called bilingualeyes along with its Spanish version bilinguazo. I joined AMB as a fan looking to become more involved in this amazing community. I am by far not an expert on anything, but maybe my take on life and mommy hood can resonate with some mamas in this fabulous journey. My hope is to learn from each other. I can’t wait for us to share our stories together.

Yays: Family, my dogs, chocolate, any body of water (especially beaches) arts and crafts and being able to do said arts and crafts for my boys and with my boys and all things silly. Mainly, being able to act like a kid and not feeling weird about it.

Nays: Rude people, fake people, people who don’t like kids (what’s wrong with you?) Bugs, all gourds, what I like to call cockroaches of the sea (shrimp, crawfish, etc.) raw onions and garlic (crazy, I know) greasy food and anything having to do with the eyes (do NOT touch the eyes).

I’m excited to be a part of this amazing collection of women and I look forward to getting to know you all and hopefully making some new great friends. Thank you!
