Last night’s Moms in the Know: Cloth Diapering & Potty Training was a great success!

Elemeno-PeelogoTonia Johnson from eLeMeNo-Pee started the night off by educating moms about cloth diapering. We learned why it’s best for baby and the environment:

  • Carcinogenic chemicals are used to make disposable diapers (dioxins, sodium polyacrylate, chlorines, bleaches, etc)
  • Diaper rash, skin irritations, UTIs do NOT occur with cloth diapers
  • NO disposable diaper has EVER decomposed since their debut in the 60’s, therefore billions of lbs of plastic diapers and feces fill our landfills every year

We also learned about the various types of diapers, how to put them on, how to change them, and how to launder them.A few diapers from our stash.

  • Prefolds & flats
  • All-in-one vs. All-in-two
  • Hybrids
  • Pocket diapers
  • Fitted diapers
  • Covers & training pants

Monika Burgett, co-founder of CheerUp Buttercups, provided education about potty training kiddos of ALL ages, and I mean ALL ages! Monika says potty training can begin as early as nine months! She taught us about readiness signs, appropriate wording and language to use, and reviewed facts & myths with a True or False questionnaire. It turns out, there’s a lot of misconceptions about potty training and far too much misinformation. Cheer Up Buttercups offers a variety of options for this delicate transition, including a written plan for yu to use when you begin, or they’ll even come into your home & potty train your child for you! Thank you, Monika for opening our eyes and teaching us how to potty train the positive way!

Also, a big thank you to Phyllis Brasenell, owner of Austin Born, for opening her doors to us and being such a gracious host with refreshments for our guests. Each guest went home with a swag bag FULL of goodies and two guests won our giveaways.
