Dads, by nature, don’t like to take a lot of advice. Whether it’s driving directions, cooking or their haircut, they don’t really want to hear anybody’s opinion on when to turn left or how to grill a steak. And, why would we need an opinion or advice? Dad knows best.
I’ll admit, I’m as stubborn about this as anyone. I want to figure out everything on my own and do it all my way. Right (i.e. rarely) or wrong (i.e. most of the time), I get frustrated every time my wife chimes in about directions when we are driving somewhere.

But what about being a dad does dad really know? All that time leading up to D-Day and the birth of your first kid, people are putting books in front of you and telling you about this class or that website to provide to check out. They are giving you all of this information on how to be a dad. But does all that information really do anything for you? Does anybody really read that stuff?
I flipped through a few books while my lady was pregnant. I’m not sure how much of that really sunk in. Even before I was dad, I was already thinking I knew what I needed to know for now and I would figure everything else out as I went along. Of course, I had a great dad to learn from. If I ever got stuck in a situation, I’d just think back to what he would have done.
And for the most part it has been trial by fire. Most of my dad decisions have worked out. And I have a great counterpart helping out along the way. We have a beautiful daughter who is walking and talking and the life of the party (at least for a 19-month old).
Okay, so I did read one book from cover to cover and it was a good one. Short and sweet and to the point. Everything I needed to put me along the right path.
Is that enough for Dads to get by? What do dads need to go from being a regular ole dad to a rock star dad?
