Summer Play Group :: An Event Recap

We’ve been celebrating the summer by getting together with local moms through Alamo City Moms Blog’s Summer Play Group series and we’ve had a ton of fun doing so!

In June, we met at Parman Library with a morning of music, dancing and fun with Treehouse Music Together.  Two weeks ago, we had our second play group of the summer at Inflatable Wonderland Rolling Oaks Mall, which was sponsored by IDEA Public School Walzem. While the kids bounced the morning away, the moms got the chance to socialize and hear from leaders at the  IDEA Walzem campus.IDEA1

IDEA Walzem is IDEA Public Schools’ newest San Antonio campus in Northeast San Antonio. They’ll open in August serving kindergarteners through 2nd graders, and a class of 6th graders. Purvi Gordon, IDEA Walzem’s Assistant Principal of Operations, joined us at the playdate to educate Alamo City Moms about IDEA and its nationally recognized academic model. At IDEA’s elementary level (which is referred to as the academy), students are exposed to a personalized curriculum program that ensures that they’re always learning at their level, while still being challenged. At the middle and high school level, or college prep, students are introduced to Pre-AP instruction to prepare them for the rigors of high school and college. Everything IDEA does is to prepare its students for success in higher education and in citizenship. For eight years, 100% of IDEA students have been accepted to college! That’s pretty impressive. IDEA is rapidly expanding in the San Antonio area. IDEA Walzem is the fourth campus for IDEA in San Antonio and will be one of ten campuses (twenty schools) by 2017.  Thank you, IDEA, for a wonderful playdate and for doing such great things for the city of San Antonio!

Our next Summer Play Group is coming up on Wednesday, August 6 at 10am at Sweet Cece’s Frozen Yogurt and Treats with entertainment from The Storytime Chicks.  On Saturday, August 16 at 9am we will be at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema North Park with a screening of Rio 2!  Be sure to sign up for both play groups here and we look forward to seeing you soon!
